Happy Birthday, Danielle!

by Marc on January 25, 2009

Well, we capped off our stint in Peru with a marathon of international flights covering 4 cities in 3 countries in a 24-hour period ending (hopefully) today on my beautiful & patient wife’s birthday.

Pretty cool birthday present, huh? (all you husbands out there take note.) We even made up a special birthday song to sing to her at 2:30am as we approach Santiago:

Happy birthday to you!

Happy birthday to you!

Please put your seat and table in the upright position,

and enjoy your 5-hour layover in Chile! :)

Oh well, hopefully by tonight we’ll be able to relax in our 2-bedroom apartment in Buenos Aires. Watch the Twitter feed to see if we made it.

As for Peru – I’ve been taking advantage of some of these awesome 5-7 hour layovers to finally do some serious blog-writing.

Get ready to hear all about it…

When we arrived in BsAs, a fellow traveler passed on these three pieces of advice, which I now pass on to you:

1) Media Lunas – go to the closest bakery and buy some media lunas – they are a great way to start your day (my son lived on ham & cheese media lunas in Argentina).

2) Dulce de Leche – Be sure to stock your apartment with DDL (as we called it) – it’s great on anything – or straight out of the container… Buy it at your neighborhood Disco supermarket.

3) Freddo Ice Cream – Freddo stores are all over BsAs – and they serve up the best ice cream I’ve ever had… (I’ve not been to Italy yet, and I’m told the gelato there is better, but I’ll believe it when I taste it.)

Enjoy BsAs, it’s a great city and Argentina was one of our favorite places.

Best,

Craig

I see a slight smile there.

The food Craig mentions sounds great. The girls should enjoy this.

Thanks Craig! We’ve already been relying heavily on your blog for advice on South America. That’s why when we bumped into a Freddo’s in Palermo Soho last night we went right in and had some! Forgot to get the dulce de leche at Disco, though – and we’ll find a bakery today.

Any restaurant suggestions in Palermo Viejo? Our Apartment is about 5 blocks S of Av Santa Fe & Plaza Italia.
