The Long Bus

by Marc on April 4, 2009

Flights are expensive in Argentina (especially for foreigners), so we used Argentina’s excellent long-distance bus system for most of our trips through the country.

All in all, we logged about 95 hours and spent 5 nights aboard buses, traveling from El Calafate all the way up to Iguazú, and even over the Andes to Santiago de Chile.

We always paid for First-Class service when it was available, with wide seats that recline almost completely flat, meal and beverage service, plus movies in English (usually). Our best trip by far was on Andesmar Ejecutivo Class from Puerto Madryn to Buenos Aires – super comfy seats, great service and pretty good movies, too:

The most scenic trip was the one from Mendoza to Santiago de Chile – the Andes on the Argentina side were really beautiful:

Still, by the time we reached Chile we had enough long bus rides and were ready to try flying again.

Aside from the long travel times It looks like you get to see more of the country than going by air. I think that’s the better way. look at the neat pict’s you have . you caan’t get them from an airplane. What a great trip.
LOVE YOU ALL & go get them

I’d splurge for the recliners too. Nice! At least for a bus, that is.
