Of course, Tokyo is well known for its adventurous cuisine and super-fresh seafood. At Zauo Sushi, in the ground floor of the Washington Hotel, they’ve given it an interesting spin.
The tables are surrounded by tanks of various live fish, and after we ordered some drinks and appetizers, the waiters set me & the kidss up with poles and bait. Danielle took some video:
The 3 of us each caught a fish, and we had the kitchen prepare them in 3 different styles. My favorite was the one we ordered “sashimi style”: it was quickly cleaned and served as thin raw slices on a bed of ice, with the head and skeleton artfully arranged beside it.
The best part – the fins and tail were still moving! Now that’s fresh!
I took a bunch of video of the little guy twitching on the plate, or at least I thought I did. But when I went to edit the video the footage wasn’t there, so you’ll just have to use your imagination.
Aside from this, we ate our fair share of sushi, but our favorite thing was yakiniku, a Korean style of barbecue where you get to grill your own succulent slices of meat right at the table.
Very tasty – and not quite as disturbing.

OK, now I’m really hungry. . .
Me too!
I like the little tune behind your fishing video
I LOVE that!
That’s so lengths to go to get a meal — pretty great experience. We aren’t so go at fishing, but sounds like a unique time.
