Tour de Xi’an

The capital of China for many centuries, Xi’an is more like what I expected China to be. People here are a little more relaxed – I even saw a few people smile.

I was hoping there would be less pollution here – no such luck. But there did seem to be more charm to this city. Walking down the Muslim Street outdoor market, with all the strange goods and food on display is exactly what I pictured when I first heard of it.

I didn’t take many photos here, partly because it rained a lot and partly because I was sick of taking pictures. But I did bring my cameras along when we decided to ride 2-seater bikes around the city wall – one of the highlights of our trip to China.

It was pretty cool, getting up away from the crowds of the city streets to see the town from a different perspective.

It was also great exercise, as the wall is nearly 8 miles in length. Danielle & I can’t even remember the last time we got on a bike at all.

Of course, the main reason we came to Xi’an was to see the Terracotta Army, and although we were pretty burned out on tourist sites, I’m glad we didn’t skip it.
