I read a lot of books. Probably an understatement. I love to read. Most always it is fiction (I don’t really care for non-fiction). I’ve thought about doing a book review blog but then again romances, mysteries, and murder stories aren’t really great works of literature.
When we started planning the trip I knew that I would have a hard time keeping myself supplied with reading material, because I’m a bit picky when it comes to format. Hardbacks are too heavy and too costly for as much as I read. The ships do have libraries, but usually they’re all hardbacks and can’t be taken off the ship to the beach.
I figured I was just going to have to suck it up and either read less, buy a few books here and there on the road or read the ship’s books. I didn’t think there was a better alternative (a 5th suitcase full of my books?).
Then my sister made the suggestion and enter into my life the wonderful Amazon Kindle.
It was a bit of a splurge, but boy do I love this gadget! The technology is pretty amazing – it weighs about as much as a paperback and the screen looks like you are reading real paper and not a computer screen.
As an added bonus it has a dictionary and free access to wikipedia (if I can get a signal) which has come in handy with the girls’ schoolwork.
Since we left (2 and a half months ago?) I’ve read about 26 books on this thing. Even though the Kindle works great outside, I still take a paperback to the beach (wees are very careful with the precious) but I am thinking about a waterproof pouch so I can take it everywhere.
So if you’re looking for a great holiday gift for someone who loves to read, check out the Kindle on amazon.com.
