Timing is Everything

by Marc on February 6, 2009

OK, so I didn’t do such a great job planing our trip to Machu Picchu, especially when it came to the hotel. But at least I got the timing right. Originally, we had considered taking the train to Aguas Calientes on Monday, visiting Machu Picchu and returning Tuesday – but for reasons I can’t really explain I decided to shift the trip a day later.

That worked out well, because it rained all day Tuesday, but the weather was gorgeous for our visit on Wednesday. And right after we got back to Cusco Wednesday night, there was a transportation strike which canceled all trains and buses on Thursday. So if we had gone to Machu Picchu a day later than we did, we would’ve been stuck in Aguas Calientes at least one extra night. Yikes!

I guess we were lucky…seems to happen to us a lot!

That is breathtaking! I am especially interested in this leg of the trip b/c I’ve never been to South America and have always wanted to go. Especially there!
