Temples and Stuff

by Marc on June 4, 2009

Bangkok is home to some pretty impressive temples and palaces, mostly accessible by boat along the Chao Phraya River. One day we took advantage of a break in the monsoon rains to check out some of them.

Wat Pho is the home of the world’s largest reclining Buddha,

as well as some fantastically ornate buildings and spires, and cool statues.

Wat Arun, or the Temple of Dawn is elaborately decorated with pieces of porcelain brought over as ballast on the ships of Chinese Traders.

Climbing its very steep steps affords some great views of the river and Grand Palace complex.

We didn’t make it to the Grand Palace, nor to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, due to an unfortunate encounter with a scamming tuk-tuk driver, but that’s another story.
