After spending a few weeks bouncing around the Sacred Valley and Cusco, it was wonderful to settle down in Buenos Aires for awhile. We rented a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment through ByT Argentina, where we stayed for 2 and a half wonderfully mellow weeks.
It was great to have so much space to hang out, and the kids loved their bedroom and the pool on the roof.
Our apartment was in Palermo Soho, a quiet neighborhood full of parks, trees and lots of restaurants.
With a grocery store just around the corner and a full (but small) kitchen, we were able to get the things we need to cook some nice meals, too – though I needed a crash-course in supermarket vocabulary to identify everything.
Ordering in restaurants was a bit of a challenge at first, too – but I quickly learned the vocabulary so we wouldn’t accidentally find ourselves staring down at a plate of sesos, riñones or morcilla (brains, kidneys and blood sausage, respectively).
Once you get past all the organ meat, you’re basically left with steak or steak. Unless you’d prefer steak. Argentina is the meat capital of the world, and the beef is mighty tasty. There are some Italian places, too, and a few “asian” and “mexican” restaurants. But basically, beef is what’s for dinner.
We did try one seafood place that was good – Jangada, in Palermo Hollywood. There I tried a river fish called Pacú, which I’m pretty sure has a higher fat content than bacon. So much for eating healthy!
Besides packing our colons with beef, we spent a lot of our time in Buenos Aires doing basically nothing – which was awesome! But we did see a few sights. More to come…

The pictures on the Flickr page are awesome too.
I am so jealous. We’ve always wanted to go to Buenos Aires. Looks so crisp & clean where y’all stayed. Very European style too. I’ve heard the food is incredible once you know where to go.
